Overview

This 3-day tour packs the very best of western Somaliland into a compact and deeply memorable journey. From the cultural streets of Hargeisa and the world-famous cave art of Laas Geel, to a night camping with nomadic communities, the mountain scenery of Sheikh, and the historic Gulf of Aden coastline at Berbera — this tour leaves nothing out.

The final day adds a visit to Dhagah Khoure, one of Somaliland's lesser-known rock art sites, before a traditional camel meat farewell lunch and transfer back to Hargeisa. Ideal for travelers with limited time who want an authentic and complete Somaliland experience.

Day by Day Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the airport, we will welcome you and begin our day with a visit to the region's largest livestock market. Here, you can observe the lively local trade, offering a fascinating glimpse into the area's economy and culture. We will then visit the Civil War Memorial, a poignant and deeply significant site for the local community.

Next, we will head to one of the most unique sights in the world: the Hargeisa money market, where exchangers sit safely on the streets alongside massive stacks of cash, completely free from the fear of theft. Afterward, we will depart for Laas Geel to explore some of the best preserved rock art in Africa. Dating back over 10,000 years, the vibrant colors and intricate details of these cave paintings make this a true highlight of the trip.

As evening approaches, we will set up camp with local nomads. You will have the unique opportunity to spend time with them, experiencing daily life by helping milk the camels, sheep, and goats. We will spend the night living as the nomads do, sleeping in tents beneath a beautiful, starry sky.

After an early wake-up call with the nomads, we will enjoy a traditional breakfast before departing from Laas Geel. We will ascend toward the picturesque mountain town of Sheikh. The journey through the Sheikh Mountains offers breathtaking, panoramic views and a refreshingly pleasant climate. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a traditional tea break with the locals, providing a wonderful opportnity to relax and immerse ourselves in the peaceful charm of the town.

From there, we will drive down to the coastal city of Berbera. After enjoying a delicious lunch, we will head to the beach for a relaxing swim. In the afternoon, a walking tour of the historic old quarter will reveal a fascinating blend of Ottoman and British architecture, much of which is still in use today. We will conclude the day with dinner and a comfortable overnight in Berbera.

NB: We will have snorkeling and diving equipment available for guests who wish to dive and experience the rich marine life.

After breakfast, we will explore Berbera and capture photos in the beautiful morning light. We will visit the Berbera Local Museum and take a scenic drive around the city. During the morning, there is also an option to rent a boat for snorkeling or diving.

Afterward, we will drive out to Dhagah Khoure, a fascinating site home to some of the oldest cave paintings in Somaliland, dating back approximately 5,000 years. After exploring the rock art and taking in the surrounding landscape, we will journey back to Hargeisa.

Upon arrival, we will treat you to a traditional lunch of camel meat before ensuring a seamless transfer to your hotel or the airport for your final departure.
