Overview

The Somaliland Express Tour is the perfect introduction to Somaliland for travelers with limited time. In just four days, you will experience the country's most iconic highlights from the Cheetah Rescue Centre and the prehistoric cave art of Laas Geel, to the colonial port of Berbera and a night camping under the stars on top of Ga'an Libah mountain.

This tour moves at a comfortable pace, combining cultural city experiences in Hargeisa with coastal exploration in Berbera and a rewarding highland adventure. Every meal is included, and our local guide handles everything from start to finish.

Day by Day Itinerary

Upon arrival and after a quick tea break, we will take a scenic drive about an hour outside the city to a forest reserve, home to the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC). Here, you will have the incredible opportunity to observe rescued cheetahs in 5-to-12-acre natural enclosures. You will learn about the sanctuary's vital work in rehabilitating these magnificent animals from the illegal wildlife trade and ensuring their well-being.

Afterward, we will return to Hargeisa for a driving tour through various neighborhoods. As the temperatures cool down, we will visit the Civil War Memorial, a poignant and deeply significant site for the local community. Next, we will head to the unique Hargeisa money market, where exchangers sit safely on the streets alongside massive stacks of cash, completely free from the fear of theft. We will end the afternoon with a guided walk through the bustling main market. Depending on the schedule, we may conclude the evening by attending a live music event to enjoy traditional Somali dance and music.

After breakfast, we will begin our day with a visit to the region's largest livestock market to observe the lively local trade, offering a fascinating glimpse into the area's economy. We will then depart for Laas Geel to explore some of the best-preserved rock art in Africa. Dating back over 10,000 years, the vibrant colors and intricate details of these cave paintings make this a true highlight of the trip.

We will then continue our journey to the coastal city of Berbera. After enjoying lunch, a walking tour of the historic old quarter will reveal a fascinating blend of Ottoman and British architecture, much of which is still in use today.

As evening approaches, we will have a local dinner together then transfer you to your hotel.

After breakfast, we will explore Berbera and capture photos in the beautiful morning light. We will visit the Berbera Local Museum and take a scenic drive around the city. During the morning, there is also an option to rent a boat for snorkeling or diving.

We will then drive to Ga’an Libah, the second-largest mountainous forest in Somaliland, located about a 4-hour drive from Berbera. Ga’an Libah is famous for its indigenous and endemic plants and birds. In the afternoon, we will set up chairs at the summit to enjoy a coffee break with spectacular views.

We will spend the night camping at the top of the mountain, enjoying the company of the locals.

After enjoying breakfast with a beautiful mountain sunrise, we will begin our drive back to Hargeisa, making a brief stop in a local town along the way. Upon arriving in the city, we will treat you to a special traditional lunch of camel meat.

Following the meal, we will arrange a hotel room for you for one hour so that you can enjoy a refreshing shower before your flight. Afterward, we will ensure a seamless transfer to the airport for your departure.
